Brainstorm Session - So Cal Mini?????

Postby DennisOBrien » Thu Jun 21, 2007 3:43 am

Thinking about a So. Cal, Mini Reunion. No time frame set or a location. We could do something wild (camping, desert, boat, Big Bear . . .) or mild (beach, met at pub or park . . .). Could do anything!

Looking for ideas and to see who might be interested.

An English pub for bangers and mash and few pints mayhaps.
Somebody bring a reasonable copy of the Union Jack.

There's a few a round.

A west coast mini would be a great idea. San Diego, Mission Beach, heck even TJ might be fun. I can't make it to the east coast this year. :(

I also am not a "wogg". Anyone who went to Darwin knows it. Beside I was a special case.

You're wogs until you post enough!

Though getting together in a bar or something is fun, it might be fun to do something else also. A tour, or camp in the desert or hang at the beach or . . . just ideas.

Also, from a camping side is Santee Lakes.
And a tour of the Midway is great fun.
An awful lot to do down there.
I'm game Dennis as long as it is during a time that I can get away from work.

Mini

Postby smfort » Sat Jul 07, 2007 2:47 am

I would like to try to make a "mini"; however, So. Cal is a long voyage for me, unless I could work in a business trip or something. I have not been to So. Cal in a few years, I am ready for a visit.

Mini-reunion ideas

Postby J.A. Langley » Wed Aug 22, 2007 9:31 pm

I know of two shipmates who can make it to Glamis in October around Columbus day weekend. Any other Quad, motorcycle, or sand rail enthusiasts onboard??

New to the site but my dad served on the England during WWII- who else on the site did??? If you are going to California for a mini reunion did you know Mare Island is still open- might be a cool place to see since it's where the ship sailed out from. Would enjoy hearing from anyone who served with my dad- Roy Breeding.

Hi Laura,

We hope that many of the DE635 family will come ot the site and use it, so welcome!

Mare Island is closed as a base but most of the areas near the docks is to be saved and some of the buildings are already in use for various purposes. The city of Vallejo operates the site, including the gold course. But, Lennar will be putting houses are parts of the grounds.

Many of the DLG/CG-22 people have a link to Mare Island also, most of the Data Systems people, myself included, went to school there. So, San Francisco/Mare Island would be a great place for folks to get together.

Take care,

Dennis

Thanks for the reply. My nephew lives in Valejo and told me all about Mare Island, I was excited for new info. All of my family thirst for information on the England as we all found my dad to be a real American Hero. He (my nephew) is an amature photographer and has taken some pictures on the island in the last few months. My parents attended several reunions together prior to his death and my mom has gone to at least one since. We all own the book by Captain Williamson telling the story of the England. I am so glad to have found this link- I'll make sure the rest of the family knows about it as well.
