Currently the Mo. Athletic Club has a bid of $75/night, parking $10/night and tax 7.25%.
Plus we'd have full access to the facilities; pool, basketball-handball-raquetball courts, sauna
and whirlpool. Voicemail, wireless internet access, and coffee & pots in each room. In my
opinion, a lot of perks we'd have little use for. They are within walking distance of the Arch
and have a bus to Busch Stadium. What I still need to find out about is meeting/hospitality
rooms and if we'd have to dine on our own. They do have 3 restaurants on site. And it is a
very cool place, not your ordinary hotel looking place.
The Millennium has a bid of $80/night, parking $7 and tax of 15.74% (the difference is the
MAC is a non-profit). There's an indoor/outdoor pool, 2 restaurants, whirlpool, and the usual
hotel amenities. Both the Arch and Busch Stadium are within easy walking distance. And free
continental breakfast. The hotel does have great views of the Arch, river, and downtown.
What I was planning for the weekend was a social gathering Friday evening. Saturday Morning
a tour of the Arch and exhibits. A lunch buffet meeting/banquet at the hotel. Then a tour of
the Budweiser Brewery facilities in the afternoon. Supper on our own with tickets to the St.
Louis Cardinals game at probably 6pm. There are a number of free activities, the zoo and
museums for example, for those staying over Sunday but, we'd pretty much wrap up after the
game Saturday and head out on Sunday.
What I'm trying to do is get Millennium to come down to $70/night and arrange transportation
to and from the brewery, which I should have worked out this week. I'm guessing that the
planned events for the weekend, Fri-Sun, should run around $300 per couple, maybe less. That
would include the tours, Cardinals game, and Sat lunch. You might add another $50-$100 for
other meals depending on where you eat. Remember, food and drink at the game is always
somewhat expensive. Unless I can get the Cardinals to treat us (doubtful but I'll try).
The Millennium has lowered their room rate bid to $77/night. If we can show them that the USS
England crew, our family and friends, will book some 50+ rooms, I believe we may be able to get
them to go to $75. I did ask them to drop to $70/night and $77 was their counter-offer. Also, the
tax rate is just under 16% for rooms and just under 10% for food and beverage.
