USS England Reunion 2014

Postby RJ Lundgren » Wed Jun 13, 2012 6:19 am

By a near unanimous vote, the crew selected Mobile, Alabama
October 9-12, 2014, for our next reunion. Ask any shipmate
who met up in St. Louis and they'll all tell you, don't miss the
next one!

For all who missed it, St. Louis was a great host for the reunion! All who served on the England should set aside Oct. 2014 for Mobile. You won't regret it. Thanks, Rj for all of your hard work!

I'm in the initial planning stage but, given what I learned
from planning the St. Louis Reunion, I expect the 2014
Reunion to be even better. Plus, with this much advance
notice, we can do a better job of passing the word along.

With that said, I'm asking everyone to help pass the word
to shipmates they are in contact with. Information will be
posted here, on the USS England's facebook page, and on
the USS England's facebook event page.

LOOKING FORWARD TO MOBILE IN OCT 2014!!

For those of you interested in the USS England reunion in October of 2014,
I'll be visiting Mobile, Alabama this spring to get a good look at things
there. I'll be getting details out soon for all of you. Please contact other
shipmates that you know, that are not connected through this page or,
the ship's facebook page and let them know about the reunion.
I'm thinking about planning a visit to the USS Alabama complex on Thursday,
with dinner aboard ship in the wardroom. Friday is explore on our own day and,
in the evening after supper, gather for our ship's meeting. On Saturday morning,
we'll travel over to Pensacola to spend the day at the NASA Air & Space museum.
On Saturday night we'll hold our traditional banquet. Sunday is just a day for
visiting, as many shipmates head for home then.
If you have any ideas or suggestions, please contact me! Happy New Year everyone!
I'm looking forward to gathering with Y'all on the South Coast in '14!

ATTENTION ALL HANDS!! ATTENTION ALL HANDS!!
USS ENGLAND REUNION 2014 UPDATE!!

Greetings Shipmates! I'm pleased to announce that I
have confirmed a deal for this year's reunion with the
Holiday Inn in Mobile, Alabama for Oct 9-12, 2014.
I have an initial block of 40 rooms reserved. You will
need to contact the hotel directly yourself to make your
reservation. DO NOT RESERVE ONLINE you may be
charged a higher rate and fixing that takes time. Call
251-666-5600, tell them you're with the USS England
DLG/CG-22 reunion group, and they will take care of
you from there.
CALL THE HOLIDAY INN DIRECTLY FOR RESERVATIONS

Room rates are $89/night, with 14% tax, the total per
night comes to $101.46. There are no room restrictions,
the rate includes a real breakfast (not a continental).
We will have a hospitality room 24/7 Friday-Sunday
which, we can supply with our own refreshments.
Also, there's free parking for those that drive down,
and a shuttle to and from the hotel for those flying in.

Our banquet will be Saturday night at 7pm and, we will
have our own bar, as the hospitality room will be opened
up and set up for our banquet. I'd also like to include our
business meeting while the majority of shipmates are
present, rather than on Sunday when so many are
heading out.

I'm waiting for the menu choices and will post them as
soon as they arrive. However, if you have any allergies
or dietary restrictions, contact me ASAP with details so
I can make arrangements for your meal.

I'm still looking to finalize the costs for tours to the
USS Alabama battleship park for the 10th and, the
Naval Air Museum on the 11th. There are several
attractions and shopping in Mobile so, I'd like to leave
you plenty of free time to explore. I'm sure the hotel
would shuttle the ladies to do some shopping while
the old salts swap sea stories.

I've tried twice to create an event on this page but, they
ended up on my personal page. Please share this post on
your personal pages and contact other shipmates you
know of so everyone get the word.

On a somber note, we will hold the rose ceremony at our
banquet. PLEASE, message me the names of USS England
shipmates that you know, who have passed away, so we
can honor them.

Thanks Mates!

Greetings to All,

Couldn't make St Louis For health and financial reasons, but already booked flight to Mobile. Wife and I are looking forward to coming. Please email me any info you have so far. My email is still the same (dh13030@sbcglobal.net).
My oldest son is a retired ENCS and lives over by Pascagoula and works for Sup Ship Gulf Coast. Planning on staying with them while there since it is only about an hour away. After the reunion going to Corpus Christi for the FRA National Convention. So kind of a working vacation of sorts.

Look forward to hearing from one of you guys.

Thanks, Shipmate MA1 Dan Hayden

Thanks RJ for the advance legwork. I made the first reunion in San Diego and had a blast. Work got in the way of the rest of the reunions. Now I'm retired with nothing in the way. I've got my hotel room reserved, and am looking forward to the event. CU there. Dick Madison RD2 (1968-69)

DEADLINE: September 19, 2014
I will need to have a final count ready for the hotel by Sept. 26th,
so they can place their banquet supply orders.

I’ve tried to plan a fun reunion that includes some of our Naval
history, and the history and charm of Mobile. I’ve also tried to
leave time for socializing as well. Since we have no official
organization, putting the reunion together is a daunting task. I
have to sign my name to contracts and such, with no real guarantees.
And that’s kind of scary. With that in mind, please promote this
event as much as you can! When more people attend, the fun we
have, multiplies exponentially, and I can stop sweating details and
enjoy the reunion as well.

Thanks!!
