RJ, I see from a post by Steve Brightman, in Sept. on Face Book, the Cardinals play the Indians on the 9th of June. Have you heard any more? Jim & Janett Brush

At the moment no. However, I have been busy with the holidays and
am in a play that opens this Friday so I've been focused on other things.
After this weekend I had planned to get back to getting the loose ends
for the reunion tied up and promoting it much more.

ST. LOUIS REUNION 2012 UPDATE!
I've contacted the St. Louis Cardinal organization about
attending their game June 9th. And am looking into the
possibility of booking a riverboat cruise as an alternative
activity. As soon as they respond with more details I'll post
more updates. I was thinking that if the game doesn't work
that a Mississippi Riverboat cruise would be a nice alternative.
They even offer a dinner cruise. We could still arrange a cruise
for those that don't want to go to the game.
What are your thoughts gang? Is a cruise something you'd
like me to pursue more seriously?

We would probably rather see a game, but if others want a cruise, we can get tickets on our own. We will keep watching for updates.

Greetings all!
At this point, all that's left is to promote the reunion. I found that
the Cardinal organization would have us collect the money for the tickets
and then pay for them all at one time. Which leaves questions as to what
section, which determines the ticket price, and who is to be the person
responsible for collecting the ticket money. It was never discussed in
Seattle and I'm a little uncomfortable handling all that cash.
As I expected, putting this together took a little work. That said,
there are a couple of sticky points I hadn't expected. Given that all this
is entirely new to me, I'm fairly pleased with the work so far. I don't
have a budget for mailing some 300-500 former shipmates and, I don't
have but a few email addresses. I've been posting details on the ship's
facebook and reunion event page, and also the ship's deck log.
I have had a few people complain about going to the Cardinals
game. I talked to a lady in St. Louis about riverboat cruises but, she
never sent any of the information I requested. Plus, there are some
that aren't interested in the brewery tour. If someone would like to
take over the challenge of getting the Cardinals game and/or
riverboat cruise arranged please, let me know ASAP and it's yours.

I was wondering, how many people are interested in the following
reunion events. Please let me know your preferences, or if you have
other suggestions. Email me at, stagehobo@aim.com
St. Louis Arch & Museum tour (free unless you take the tram to the top of the arch)
Budweiser Brewery & Clydesdale Stables tour ($2-5 for the bus there, no admission cost)
Cardinals baseball game (tickets will run $25 and up depending on seat location)
Riverboat cruise (just cruise or dinner cruise, awaiting details from St. Louis)

Everything but the brewery tour is within a short walk of our hotel. I have also arranged
to have copies of the downtown trolley routes/schedules and visitors guides available
in our hospitality suite.
Thanks shipmates!

Sounds like a lot of fun!!!! We want to go to the arch and a ballgame! We are also hoping to get everyone together for a meal, even if it is a picnic at noon on Sat.. It doesn't have to be fancy. Come on Englanders, let's hear from all of you!

Things have come together fairly well and I'm pleased with everything
except the way the Cardinals organization seems uninterested in whether
we attend a game or not. Perhaps I should have looked into hiring a band
and planned a banquet/dance for Saturday instead.
At this point in time there isn't really much to do. Trying to make the
arrangements for Saturday night is about all. I know some will not
want to go to the Arch, some aren't interested in the brewery tour, and
others will pass on the baseball game. I've contacted the rep at the
Core of Discovery about riverboat cruises but, am still waiting for her
to email me the details. Once she does, I'll pass along the information
for everyone to decide on.
My goal for taking on this challenge was to make it a fun yet, as
inexpensive as possible, reunion. I planned on arrivals Friday, the
activities Saturday, and left Sunday open for departures. The hope
was to make it affordable for as many shipmates as possible. With
that in mind I had a goal of 100 shipmates attending.
With Friday and Sunday pretty much open, I was hoping that many
would have plenty of time to explore St. Louis. There are so many
things in St. Louis that are free or inexpensive. Several museums and
the Zoo are free/donation admission. As we draw nearer to June, I
hope more old shipmates come aboard, so to speak.

“MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS”
USS ENGLAND REUNION 2012
June 7-10, 2012

ATTENTION ALL HANDS!

Once again we are gathering all former shipmates from the USS England,
this time in beautiful and historic St. Louis. At our reunion in Seattle, it was
decided to forgo using the MRLS and cut expenses by organizing the next reunion
(St. Louis) ourselves. This reunion is one of the most affordable reunions ever! In
addition to meeting up with old friends and making new ones, there are a number
of free and inexpensive family activities available in St. Louis. Several museums,
brewery tours, and the St. Louis Zoo are either free or donation. There’s also a
6 Flags amusement park, riverboat tours, lots of music and food, and the MLB's
World Champion St. Louis Cardinals to choose from. Estimated cost per couple -
$300 (2 days) or $450 (3 days), singles will run slightly less, not including your
transportation to/from St. Louis.
