Great PIX Dennis!! Just a note to update one of the early ones: File name "England Pre-1980" is probably best described as pre-1974. She still has her 3"-50 gun mounts and an SPS-10 Surface Search radar. I was aboard Sep 71-Jan 77. This picture was taken (probably) during an very early WestPac and I can't really tell if NTDS is installed. The area aft of the signal bridge doesn't appear to be wide enough and the SOD Hut sitting there faces fore-and-aft. Later Viet Nam delpoyments had that hut in the same neighborhood but athwartships. The aircraft overhead in an IL-33 "May" (Russian version of our P-3 Neptune ASW bird). Rick Ward may be able to provide more info since NTDS showed up during 70-71 Bath overhaul/upgrade. If I can dig through my photos I might have some more to add. I was ship's Intel Photographer durin 2 deployment, including one with the Hancock Battle Group into the IO over CHristmas 1974 (got some great pix of Sob-Bloc warships then!)

The 3" ers came off in 1980'ish . . . when she went into the yards (Long Beach) and the CWIS (2) came on.

The DOD capiton is, "An air-to-air left rear view of a Soviet I1-38 May reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare aircraft over the guided missile cruiser USS ENGLAND (CG 22). 22 May 1979"

I should go through and put the captions in . . . but I was in a hurry to get them up.

Great pics Dennis. I have been looking for some hires angles for my NTU model I am building. They do the trick perfectly.
